Carotid Artery Stenosis

Characterized by the narrowing or occlusion of the carotid arteries due to atherosclerosis. This increases the risk of stroke.

Symptoms

Often asymptomatic until complications arise, such as:
• Weakness or numbness in the face or limbs
• Difficulty speaking or understanding
• Blurred vision or loss of vision in one eye
• Dizziness or loss of balance

Management

• Conservative: Lifestyle changes and medication.
• Surgical: Carotid endarterectomy or angioplasty with stenting.
